SALUS POPULI PENSION PROJECT

We are actively locating, digitizing, and creating a publicly accessible repository for the pension files of Missouri USCT servicemen in the seven counties known as Missouri's "Little Dixie": Boone, Calloway, Chariton, Clay, Lafayette, Howard, and Saline. By making these records accessible, we aim to study how servicemen and their families remained vigilant in their fight for equality during the Civil War, Reconstruction, and beyond.

Public Digital Humanities Institute
2022–2023
In June 2022, Michelle Cook and Riley Sutherland attended the Public Digital Humanities Institute, held by the University of Kansas' Institute for Research in the Digital Humanities. There, they created a project plan and attended classes about university/community partnerships; oral history practices; public history funding and marketing; community-grounded cartography and data; participatory project models; and digital tools and methods to create accessible programming for diverse audiences.
