Propaganda in wartime is nothing new. With the rise of modern newspapers and later electronic media systematic propaganda became more ubiquitous and powerful. George Orwell's novels such as 1984, (published in 1948) were prophetic. But Orwell's characterization in the form of fiction by means of a novel actually had a foundation in reality, namely World War I and World War II. The classic British text on propaganda was written by Arthur Ponsonby, MP and published in 1928.
