Kushner Secret Mexican Diplomacy

Jared Kushner, son in law of President Donald Trump, is engaged in secret diplomacy with Mexico outside of normal official channels.  Behind the backs of the US government and official diplomatic and intelligence channels, Kushner is free lancing US foreign policy.  The same pattern has emerged with Saudi Arabia.  The New York Times reports on his Mexico dealings:

"  Beyond that, Mr. Kushner, who also met with Mexico’s foreign minister, did not invite the American ambassador — Roberta S. Jacobson, a diplomat with more than 30 years of experience in the region — to join him in the meetings, according to a senior American official who was not authorized to speak publicly.....

....From early on in the Trump administration, Mr. Kushner was cast in the role of managing the strained relationship with Mexico. For help, Mr. Kushner has relied heavily on Luis Videgaray, the Mexican foreign minister and perhaps the closest adviser to Mr. Peña Nieto. The two advisers have met more than a dozen times since Mr. Trump took office, including during many of Mr. Videgaray’s 15 trips to Washington.

The men have largely been the brokers of American engagement with Mexico, often cutting out State Department experts and the United States Embassy in Mexico."....
